Frequently asked questions.

What is Unfold Art Therapy and Counseling?

Unfold Art Therapy and Counseling is a private therapy practice created to support people on their journey toward healing, growth, and self-discovery. Founded by Jill Hudak, a licensed professional counselor and registered art therapist, Unfold offers individual therapy services with a unique option to incorporate art-making into the process. Whether through talk therapy, art therapy, or a blend of both, the focus is always on helping you connect with yourself, navigate life’s challenges, and unfold into the person you’re becoming.

Wait… art therapy? Counseling? What does that mean?

Great question! At Unfold, you can talk things out, create art, or do a mix of both—whatever helps you feel heard and supported.

Counseling is space to talk through life stuff—stress, anxiety, identity, relationships, and more.

Art therapy uses creativity to express what words sometimes can’t. No art skills needed, promise.

It’s all about finding what works for you and building a life that feels more like yours.

What ages do you work with?

I work with individuals ages 12 and up, offering a supportive and creative space for teenagers, young adults, and adults to explore and grow.

What can I expect in the first session?

The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We’ll talk about what’s bringing you to therapy, your goals, and any questions you might have. There’s no pressure to share everything right away—we’ll move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

Do you offer in-person or virtual sessions?

I offer both! In-person sessions take place at my office in Fenton, MI, and virtual therapy is available for clients anywhere in the state of Michigan. Virtual sessions are held through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform, allowing you to meet from the comfort and privacy of your own space. Whether you prefer to connect in person or online, we’ll choose the option that works best for you.

How often will we meet for therapy?

Most clients begin with weekly sessions, especially at the start, to build momentum and consistency. That said, we’ll talk about what schedule feels right for you and can adjust as needed based on your needs and goals.

How long does therapy last?

It really depends on you and your goals. Some people come to therapy for a short time to work through a specific issue, while others choose to stay longer for ongoing support and personal growth. We’ll check in along the way to make sure therapy continues to feel helpful and aligned with your needs.

Do you take insurance?

Yes, I currently accept Blue Cross Blue Shield and Aetna. I will also be accepting Priority Health soon.

If you have a different insurance provider, I can provide a monthly superbill for you to submit for possible out-of-network reimbursement. If you're not sure how that works, I’m happy to guide you through the process.

What if I’m not sure therapy is right for me?

That’s completely okay—and really common. Therapy is a personal decision, and it’s normal to feel uncertain at first. You're welcome to book a free consultation call where we can talk about what you’re hoping for and see if it feels like a good fit—no pressure at all.
